The BTA was pleased to play an integral part in the Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations in Godalming over the long weekend of 2-5 June.
We had a joint tennis stand with Godalming Lawn Tennis Club at the Sports for All day hosted by Sport Godalming at the Burys field in town. Over 20 different sports clubs were represented at this festive community event from kayaking to fishing. At the BTA stand, young and old alike were put through their paces at the mini nets and good fun was had by all.
The day was even supported by royal visitors TRH's the Earl and Countess of Wessex. Unfortunately, as they were not carrying their tennis shoes, Rob Dannat did not get to play them on this occasion.
Many thanks to Chris and Maggie Jagger for manning the stand in the morning and especially Rob, who was there coaching for the entire day.

Floodlights full steam ahead after the BTA Secures major Sport’s England Award
Busbridge Tennis Association has secured £37,900 of Olympic Legacy Funding from Sport’s England’s Inspired Facilities Fund.
The Inspired Facilities Fund is part of the £135 million “Places People Play” legacy programme that is bringing the magic of a home Olympic and Paralympic Games into the communities across the country. Every Sports facility that receives funding will carry the London 2012 Inspire mark – celebrating the link to the Games.
The funding will be used to provide floodlighting for the four hard tennis courts used by the BTA. This will enable significant expansion of the junior coaching and playing programmes meaning that participants can play throughout the year.
Sport’s England Chair Richard Lewis said that "this investment will provide a fantastic sporting legacy for Busbridge. This fund has really hit the mark with sports clubs in Surrey. It shows we are offering the legacy that people want for their local community. For hundreds of clubs and tens of thousands of people, 2012 will be the year that their local sports facilities just got better".
BTA chair Dr Chris Jagger said "BTA will now progress to a higher level. This generous award presents a significant milestone in our club’s development. Floodlight provision will attract new members and provide enhanced playing hours and greater opportunities for all, including our potential young champions, Wimbledon here we come!"
The formal presentation of the cheque by Sport England’s CEO Jennie Price was made to the BTA on Saturday 11th February. The event was supported by Jeremy Hunt MP, the Mayors of Godalming and Waverley, Amy Wright -Senior Media Officer and Alice Cookson - Public Affairs Manager Sport Englan, the BTA executive committee and coaches and members of the BTA. After the speeches and an exhibition match between the coaches, everyone was invited back to Holloway Hill Pavilion for refreshments.
Special thanks go to BTA’s David Bundred for all his effort in helping to secure this award.
